IMO STATE 2024 BUDGET

GOVERNOR UZODIMMA PRESENTS THE 2024 IMO STATE BUDGET OF N592.2 BILLION TO THE STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY 

The Imo State Governor, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma presented a 592.2 billion budget proposal for the 2024 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly on December 12, 2023.

Governor Uzodimma disclosed that the budget, named: ‘BUDGET OF RENEWED ECONOMIC GROWTH,’ allocates less than 10% to recurrent expenditure (N100.99 billion) and the majority to capital expenditure (N491.2 billion).

He said that the 2024 budget proposal, the first year of his second tenure as the democratically elected Governor of Imo State, aimed to stimulate and fast-track economic growth in Imo State, geared towards enhancing investments and productivity, improve the ease of doing business, and create ample opportunities for citizens to participate in the economy.

Governor Uzodimma said, “This administration will continue to pursue its policy of massive road construction across the State as well as the Urban Renewal Programmes in Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones. 

Notably, plans include extensive road construction, Urban Renewal Programmes, provision of low, medium and high-income housing estates in the 3 geopolitical zones in the State, improvement of more humanitarian policies, the establishment of a Digital Literacy Village, and many more by 2024. 

The Governor further emphasized plans to establish within 2024, a Digital Literacy Village (DLV) in the State that will serve as a digital skills training hub for the nation and neighbouring African countries. 

He appealed for the speedy passage of the appropriation bill by the lawmakers.

The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Chike Olemgbe highlighted the historic nature of the budget presentation and emphasized the House's commitment to ensuring compliance with International Public Sector Accounting Standards for effective financial management.
